I've done quiet a few silhouette photos. Both indoors and outdoors. As you can see throughout this post, I selected a few to show you. The outdoor photos I shot with a very high shutter speed. I did this in order to have the people blacked out. The aperture was set at f14 and the iso was 1600. I always have my camera set to where the iso can go know higher than 1600. Also make sure you have nothing in your background. It has to be open space or the people won't come out right.

Family Silhouette.

Indoor maternity silhouette.
Now the indoor photo I did in front of a window. But my shutter speed was set low and the iso was 400. I did this because I didn't have enough light in the background so I had to slow things down and allow more light in.
It takes a lot of practice. You have to find the balance between the iso and shutter speed and of course the aperture as well. For me outdoor silhouettes need a high shutter speed. But also every photographer is different. There could be a technique that works better for you. But heres some ideas and a start for getting great silhouettes. And who knows the more I practice and do, I might even learn something new.
